Documation has supported Repair Café Winchester since its inception, assisting with IT, managing their website, attending Repair Café events and more. Our CEO, John Wallace, is also a trustee and regularly volunteers at these events. We are delighted to announce that Repair Café Winchester has recently won ‘The Green Award’ at the BBC Radio Solent Make a Difference Awards!
Make a Difference launched in March 2020, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, as a virtual notice board connecting people offering help with others in need of support. Since then, over ten million people have engaged with the campaign through local and national BBC radio stations. Every September, award ceremonies are held across the UK, highlighting individuals and groups who go above and beyond in their communities, providing an opportunity to say ‘Thank You’ to those who dedicate themselves to improving the lives of others.
The Repair Café Winchester won The Green Award, one of eight categories, recognising the efforts to make our communities more environmentally friendly and better for nature. One of many worldwide, Repair Café Winchester brings together skilled volunteers who can fix all sorts of items and pass on the skills to their owners. This not only prevents over a thousand kilograms of items from ending up in landfills but also extends their lifespan and conserves raw materials needed to create new products. As a result, it helps reduce CO2 emissions and contributes to combating climate change.
