Our ESG efforts in 2024

Since 2021, Documation has provided an annual sustainability report and set ambitious goals for the upcoming year to drive continuous progress in our efforts towards our ongoing commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2030. Below is a round-up of what we have supported throughout 2024.

Food Waste Action Week

Every year in March, UK-based organisation WRAP, run a campaign which provides the tools people need to cut food waste in their homes, an important climate change issue. There is a new theme each year and this year the campaign focused on encouraging people to ‘Choose What You’ll Use’, which highlighted the benefits of buying loose fruit and vegetables.

Throughout the week, we shared tips and benefits on how you can reduce food waste in relation to the ‘Choose What You’ll Use’ theme, using the campaign hashtag #FoodWasteActionWeek on our social media channels. Additionally, we encouraged our team to share their favourite recipes and tips through our company’s “green” Microsoft Teams channel, which is dedicated to sustainability.

Mental Health Awareness Week

This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week was dedicated to ‘Movement: Moving more for our mental health’. With this in mind, we organised a step challenge for the Documation Team to take part in throughout the week (13th – 19th May), to support our team’s well-being by encouraging movement. We used an app called ‘Stridekick’ which featured a leaderboard so team members could track how well they were doing compared to others. We shared walk recommendations and awarded a £20 eGift card at Decathlon to two team members with the most steps.

Romsey Relay Marathon

Six of the Documation team members took part in the Romsey Relay Marathon on behalf of British-Ukrainian Aid on 19th May. We are extremely proud to say our team managed to finish 30th out of 148 finishing teams with a time of 3 hours and 22 minutes.

British-Ukrainian Aid supports people suffering from the war and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine by aligning UK and Ukrainian efforts. The charity offers assistance to vulnerable individuals who have been physically, mentally or socially disadvantaged. The team managed to raise over £500 for this great cause. A fantastic achievement!

Repair Café

Since it’s inception in 2023, Documation has supported Repair Café Winchester (RCW). Throughout 2024, we continued to help assist with the RCW’s IT, support their web development and attend repair café events. Our CEO, John Wallace, is heavily involved within the RCW community, attending monthly Repair Café events and is also a trustee.

Repair Café Winchester is one of many repair cafés across the world and it brings together skilled volunteers who can fix all sorts of items. This not only prevents over a thousand kilograms of items from ending up in landfills but also extends their lifespan and conserves raw materials to make a new item. All this helps in the reduction of emissions of CO2 and ultimately helps with reducing climate change.

In September, the Winchester Repair Café recently won The Green Award at the BBC Radio Solent Make a Difference Awards. One of eight categories, this award recognises the efforts to make our communities more environmentally friendly and better for nature. You can learn more about the award here!

If you have something you’d like repaired and live near Winchester, visit the website to find out more information about upcoming events and how to book your repair.  You can also follow Repair Café Winchester on Facebook and keep up to date with news and events.

AGM 2024 – Supporting Mental Health UK

For our annual company AGM, we enjoyed a fantastic day at the Ordnance Survey – a national mapping agency. Their Head Office, Explorer House, has been redesigned to reduce emissions, making it a suitable venue that aligned perfectly with our sustainability initiatives.

The Ordnance Survey hosted an afternoon of fun activities for the Documation Team. This included creating our own origami masterpieces, a walk through the site’s local woodland and ending with Ordnance Survey’s brilliant re-creation of Taskmaster – all in support of Mental Health UK!

Journey offsetting

Throughout 2024, we exhibited at many industry events which enabled our team of experts to network with finance professionals and discuss their challenges. As part of our continued commitment to sustainability, we provided an option for our stand visitors to offset their journey to the conference and allow them to do their bit towards helping the environment! Over the course of the year, we managed to offset a total of 21 stand visitor journeys which contributed towards the Woodlands Trust, who help protect the UK’s woods, trees and wildlife.

Save the Children – Christmas Jumper Day Bake Sale

For Christmas Jumper Day, we joined our office neighbours, MOSL, and held a bake sale during our office building Christmas party. The Documation team baked some homemade Christmas treats which helped contribute towards raising £200 towards the Charity Save the Children. It was a great opportunity to get to know our office community and raise some money for a great cause.

No Limits Christmas Party

Following Christmas Jumper Day, we also joined MOSL supporting No Limits, an award-winning charity providing prevention, early intervention, and crisis support for young people under the age of 26 in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton.

MOSL donated a generous amount of their annual social budget to ensure there was a selection of food, drinks and presents for the day.  Documation contributed by sharing a gift list with the team, where they could pick a present from the list that was age/gender appropriate, which was then wrapped and put under the Christmas tree ready for the young people. Additionally, we donated games to the Southampton Advice Centre for use in therapy sessions, workshops and by visitors.

You can find out more about the day here!

Overall, it has been a great year supporting our community and we look forward to continuing our efforts in 2025. Keep an eye out for the release of our full comprehensive report on our Environmental, Social and Governance impact in 2024.
